Biography
Grace Warner is no traditional snowboarder. Growing up in Michigan meant learning how to snowboard on landfills repurposed to bring winter magic to small towns. Learning how to snowboard at the young age of four with her siblings, begging their dad to stay longer even after the lifts had closed. It didn’t take long for the addiction to take hold as Grace began to move from the hill to the streets, seeking urban features in the long Midwest winters. The snowboarding community noticed her breakout part in The Uninvited III and Corrupt in 2018.
Things began to escalate for Grace as sponsorships from Burton and Red Bull came in, elevating her opportunity to pursue snowboarding full-time.
Along with partnerships, the invite to compete in high-level contests poured in. From being the only girl competing in local events to all of sudden being dropped into the professional contest scene, Grace began her contest journey with Slush’s Game of S.N.O.W in 2021. It was official – Grace was meant to be a pro rider. Following S.N.O.W, Grace successfully placed 2nd in Streetsyle at the 2021 Dew Tour held at Copper Mountain, followed by a 2022 2nd place finish at Red Bull Rail Yard in Boone, North Carolina. Over the course of the 21/22 season, not only did Grace compete, but she began filming for Hot Coco earning her Slushie Short Film of the Year in the fall of 2023. While receiving accolades for Hot Coco, she released the groundbreaking part in BLOOOM showcasing the explosive and jaw-dropping footage that set a new standard for snowboarding.
Keeping her foot on the gas, Grace was the first woman to win gold at the 2024 Winter X Games in Aspen for Street Style.
Grace’s desire to give back to the community and industry is fuelled by her passion to encourage the next generation of riders. Whether participating in the Slide-In Tour, Copper’s Woodward Summer Camp mentoring and teaching kids how to advance their snowboarding while instilling confidence in their riding abilities. In 2024, Grace and Red Bull partnered to create Grace’s Getaway. We sat down with Grace to chat about all things snowboarding.
What was the motivation behind Grace’s Getaway?
Grace Warner: The original idea was to get a group of people together who loved snowboarding and to celebrate the culture that ties us together. I wanted to create a comfortable environment for some amazing boarders to get together and support each other, push each other, and progress together. Since the winter is so busy, I’ve never had the chance to spend quality time with these people (on and off snow). So I created a space where we could all slow down and form relationships in hopes of strengthening the female/non-binary community within snowboarding. No judgment, no busy schedules, no competition, and no pressure. Something we’ve never experienced together.
As the event evolved, what was the final outcome of the experience?
Grace Warner: My experience at the event left me extremely fulfilled! Everyone fully understood the assignment and everything came together quite perfectly. It was truly so special to see something that started as a little idea in my head come to life so quickly. I’m excited to hopefully continue this event and make it better every year as well as create new project proposals. I have lots of ideas!
Snowboarding is a family affair. Looking back on your career and life, how did you get into snowboarding and what led you to where you are today?
Grace Warner: My dad introduced me to snowboarding at the age of four. He’s always been super into it. My early memories of snowboarding are all with family. I have an older brother, Kyle, a younger brother, Drake, and a younger sister, Ava. They all played a huge role in my journey to where I am now. They’ve always inspired me and motivated me to progress. The fact that we could all share our love for snowboarding with each other made it even more special. I’m so blessed to have such a supportive family.
Community is very important to you. How do you feel your community played a role in your entry into snowboarding and what drives you to maintain that support for the next generation of riders?
Grace Warner: Along with my family, the locals played a huge role in my love for snowboarding. I never really kept up with the industry pros so the locals were really where I got all my inspiration growing up. Everything I saw was what was in front of me. The scene in Michigan is incredible. There are so many boarders here with so much talent and style. They accepted me and helped me find comfort on my snowboard. It became my way of self-expression. I feel that if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be where I am today. Because of this, I’m very motivated to use the tools I have now to give back to the community and create opportunities for the next generation.
